4) How do you Spread Bet on the Bank of Ireland Market to Go Up?
Bank of Ireland Financial Spread Trading Example
Should you decide to spread trade on Irish shares such as Bank of Ireland then, looking at a spread trading site like Capital Spreads, you would currently see a spread betting price of €1.44 - €1.47.
Therefore, you could bet on Bank of Ireland shares to move above €1.47 or below €1.44.
With spread betting, you trade on every unit the market moves up or down; for the Bank of Ireland market a unit is €0.01 of the share's price movement.
For this instance, you might decide to spread bet £10 for every cent that the Bank of Ireland share price goes up or down.
Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Increase
If you bought Bank of Ireland at €1.47 and the shares increased then the spread might become €1.56 - €1.59. Therefore, you could close your spread trade at €1.56.
Profit or Loss = (final price of the market - opening price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€1.56 - €1.47) x £10 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = €0.09 x £10 per cent
Profit or Loss = £90 profit
The markets can of course fall, if the market had decreased to, for example, €1.39 - €1.42, you might decide to close your spread bet to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell at €1.39.
With the same £10 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (final price of the market - opening price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€1.39 - €1.47) x £10 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -€0.08 x £10 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£80 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Bank of Ireland Market to Go Down?
One of the advantages of Spread Trading is that you can go short of the markets.
To start with, the market was €1.44 - €1.47.
If you were to sell Bank of Ireland at €1.44 and the shares went down then the spread might change to €1.33 - €1.36. If that happened, you might decide to close your trade for a profit by buying at €1.36.
Profit or Loss = (opening price of the market - final price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€1.44 - €1.36) x £10 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = €0.08 x £10 per cent
Profit or Loss = £80 profit
Financial markets also move up, if the market increased to, as an example, €1.48 - €1.51, you may decide to close your trade to restrict your losses. If this were the case, you would buy the market at €1.51.
Therefore, with the same £10 per cent stake:
Profit or Loss = (opening price of the market - final price of the market) x stake per cent
Profit or Loss = (€1.44 - €1.51) x £10 per cent stake
Profit or Loss = -€0.07 x £10 per cent
Profit or Loss = -£70 loss
