Capital Spreads - Tight Spreads
The main cost with spread betting is the spread itself, i.e. the difference between the sell and buy price.
The wider the spread, the more costly it is for an investor to trade. Capital Spreads offers some of the tightest spreads available and this makes it easier for you to trade profitably.
For example, the spread on FTSE 100 shares is just 0.1%, i.e. just 0.05% per side of the underlying market.
For more examples of the tight spreads available see below.
Note that spreads can vary outside normal market hours.

Capital Spreads Account
Looking in more detail at the company's proposition, they offer:
- Low Margin Requirements: 'Margin' is the amount of money you need in your account in order to make a trade. Capital Spreads offer low margin requirements across their entire range of markets. This means that you only deposit a small percentage of the total value of a trade before taking a new position. For example, you only need to deposit £30 to open a £1 Rolling Daily FTSE 100 trade.
- Limit your Risk: in order to help with your risk management, every trade has a stop loss automatically applied to it. This gives you some protection if the market moves against you. However, in the event of a market gap your stop loss may not be filled at the level you requested unless you have specified for your trade to be guaranteed.
- Wide Range of Markets: Capital Spreads offer more than 2,500 different products, including stock market indices, forex, commodities, bonds and interest rates. You can also trade a wide range of shares listed in the UK, US, Germany, France, South Africa, India and a number of other countries.
- Small Stakes: you can start trading from as little as £1 a point.
- Education: Capital Spreads offer a variety of learning tools.
- Demo Account: if you are new to financial spread betting or perhaps interested in testing out the platform then Capital Spreads offer a free demo account. With the demo account you can familiarise yourself with the trading platform and test your trading without risking any of your capital.
- Monthly Seminars: it's often useful to hear things from the people 'in the know'. Capital Spreads offer free monthly seminars that cover a range of topics.
- Free Trading Tools: clients are provided with a free trading tools section that offers a wealth of in-depth trading information including an economic calendar and a financial diary. There is also a range of independent technical analysis tools such as trading models, support and resistance levels and daily market commentary.
- Live Charts: like most spread betting companies Capital Spreads provides clients with live streaming charts to keep an eye on the market's current trends and price movements.
Capital Spreads Mobile
The platform has been optimised for iPhone and Android based smartphones. The mobile trading software has been designed to give clients as much flexibility as the current online platform. Traders can:
- Check the live prices and latest market movements.
- Open and close positions.
- Set a range of orders including: Stops, Limits, If Done and OCO orders.
- View and amend your Portfolio.
- Review the latest charts.
Capital Spreads CFDs
As well as a comprehensive spread betting service, Capital Spreads also offers a multi asset trading platform so you can spread bet and trade contracts for difference (CFDs) on shares, forex, indices and commodities.
CFDs offer an alternative to the more traditional ways of share trading. With CFD trading you do not own the underlying market and you do not put up the full value of the shares that you are buying or selling.
|
|
|
With CFD trading the main costs are normally the commission and the spread (ie the difference between the sell and buy price). It therefore costs more to trade when there are high commission levels and wide spreads.
There are no commissions with Capital Spreads CFDs and they also offer some of the tightest spreads in the market. For example, the spread applied to FTSE 100 equities is just 0.05% per side of the underlying market.
With Capital Spreads CFDs investors can also benefit from:
- No stamp duty*
- Low minimum margin rates
- Trading an exact quantity of shares or lot sizes
