With spread betting, investors trade on every unit the market increases or decreases; with the Carlsberg market a unit is 1 Danish Krone of the share's price movement.
Accordingly, you might choose to bet £5 for every Krone that the Carlsberg share price increases or decreases.
Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Rise
If you bought Carlsberg at 589.7 DKK and the shares rose then the market might be re-priced at 607.4 DKK - 609.3 DKK. If this were the case, you might decide to close your spread bet at 607.4 DKK.
Your P&L = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per Krone

Your P&L = 17.7 DKK x £5 per Krone
Your P&L = £88.50 profit
Financial markets also move down, if the market had decreased to, for example, 573.5 DKK - 575.4 DKK, you could choose to close your trade to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would sell the market at 573.5 DKK.
You would close your bet with the same £5 per Krone stake:
Your P&L = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per Krone
Your P&L = (573.5 DKK - 589.7 DKK) x £5 per Krone stake
Your P&L = -16.2 DKK x £5 per Krone
Your P&L = -£81.00 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Carlsberg Market to Go Down?
One major advantage of spread trading is that you can sell the markets.
When we began this example, the price was 587.8 DKK - 589.7 DKK.
If you were to go short of Carlsberg at 587.8 DKK and the shares decreased then you might see the spread move to 570.0 DKK - 571.9 DKK. In that case, you might choose to close your trade for a profit at 571.9 DKK.
Your P&L = (opening level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krone
Your P&L = (587.8 DKK - 571.9 DKK) x £5 per Krone stake
Your P&L = 15.9 DKK x £5 per Krone
Your P&L = £79.50 profit
Conversely, if the market had increased to, as an example, 600.4 DKK - 602.3 DKK, you might want to close your bet to prevent further losses. Assuming this was the case, you would buy your spread bet at 602.3 DKK.
You would do this with the same £5 per Krone stake:
Your P&L = (opening level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krone
Your P&L = (587.8 DKK - 602.3 DKK) x £5 per Krone stake
Your P&L = -14.5 DKK x £5 per Krone
Your P&L = -£72.50 loss
