On the other hand, if the market decreased to Rs. 986.17 - Rs. 990.64, you might want to close your spread bet to prevent further losses. In that case, you would sell back at Rs. 986.17.
You would do this with the same £2 per Rupee stake:
Profit or Loss = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per Rupee
Profit or Loss = (Rs. 986.17 - Rs. 1,027.26) x £2 per Rupee stake
Profit or Loss = -Rs. 41.09 x £2 per Rupee
Profit or Loss = -£82.18 loss
5) How do you Spread Bet on the Mahindra & Mahindra Market to Go Down?
An advantage of spread trading is that investors can short the markets.
If you recall, initially the market was priced at Rs. 1,022.79 - Rs. 1,027.26.

Conversely, if the market had increased to Rs. 1,063.32 - Rs. 1,067.79, you might want to close your spread bet to limit your losses. Assuming this was the case, you would buy the market at Rs. 1,067.79.
So, with the same £2 per Rupee stake:
Profit or Loss = (opening level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Rupee
Profit or Loss = (Rs. 1,022.79 - Rs. 1,067.79) x £2 per Rupee stake
Profit or Loss = -Rs. 45.00 x £2 per Rupee
Profit or Loss = -£90.00 loss
