3) How to Spread Bet on Nasdaq Listed Shares
Adobe Financial Spread Betting Example
Should you decide to spread bet on US shares like Adobe then, on visiting a spread betting website, you might see a spread betting price of $33.46 - $33.52.
Therefore, you could spread trade on Adobe shares to go higher than $33.52 or to go lower than $33.46.
When spread betting, investors bet on every unit the market moves up or down; in the case of the Adobe market a unit is $0.01 of the share's price movement.
For this instance, you might decide to trade £2 for every cent that the Adobe share price goes up or down.
Spread Betting on the NASDAQ Stock to Rise
If you bought Adobe at $33.52 and the shares increased then the market might be re-priced at $34.11 - $34.17. If so, you could close your trade for a profit by selling at $34.11.
Profits (or Losses) = (final price of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per cent
Profits (or Losses) = ($34.11 - $33.52) x £2 per cent stake
Profits (or Losses) = $0.59 x £2 per cent
Profits (or Losses) = £118 profit
Markets can also fall, if the market had decreased to $32.97 - $33.03, you may want to close your trade to restrict your losses. Assuming this was the case, you would sell at $32.97.
You would do this with the same £2 per cent stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (final price of the market - opening value of the market) x stake per cent
Profits (or Losses) = ($32.97 - $33.52) x £2 per cent stake
Profits (or Losses) = -$0.55 x £2 per cent
Profits (or Losses) = -£110 loss
Spread Betting on the NASDAQ Stock to Fall
A key benefit of US shares spread betting is that you can sell the markets.
At the beginning of this example, the spread betting price was $33.46 - $33.52.
If you were to sell Adobe at $33.46 and the shares decreased then the spread could move to $32.87 - $32.93. If that happened, you could close your spread bet at $32.93.
Profits (or Losses) = (opening value of the market - final price of the market) x stake per cent
Profits (or Losses) = ($33.46 - $32.93) x £2 per cent stake
Profits (or Losses) = $0.53 x £2 per cent
Profits (or Losses) = £106 profit
The markets can of course rise, if the market had risen to, as an example, $33.90 - $33.96, you may want to close your spread bet to limit your losses. If that were to happen, you would buy your spread bet at $33.96.
Therefore, with the same £2 per cent stake:
Profits (or Losses) = (opening value of the market - final price of the market) x stake per cent
Profits (or Losses) = ($33.46 - $33.96) x £2 per cent stake
Profits (or Losses) = -$0.50 x £2 per cent
Profits (or Losses) = -£100 loss
