3) How to Spread Bet on Swedish Shares
Nordea Bank Spread Betting Example
Should you decide to spread trade on Swedish shares such as Nordea Bank then, on visiting a spread betting site like Capital Spreads, you might find a spread trading price of 74.6 SEK - 74.8 SEK.
That means you could spread trade on Nordea Bank shares to increase higher than 74.8 SEK or to decrease lower than 74.6 SEK.
If you are spread betting, you bet on every unit the market goes up or down. For the Nordea market a unit is 1 Swedish Krona of the share's price movement.
For this instance, you might choose to trade £20 for every Krona that the Nordea share price moves up or down.
Spread Betting on the Swedish Shares to Go Up
If you were to go long of Nordea at 74.8 SEK and the shares increased then the spread might become 78.5 SEK - 78.7 SEK. If that happened, you might choose to close your spread bet for a profit by selling at 78.5 SEK.
Your P&L = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per Krona
Your P&L = (78.5 SEK - 74.8 SEK) x £20 per Krona stake
Your P&L = 3.7 SEK x £20 per Krona
Your P&L = £74.00 profit
On the other hand, if the market had decreased to, as an example, 70.7 SEK - 70.9 SEK, you might want to close your bet to restrict your losses. If this were the case, you would sell your spread bet at 70.7 SEK.
So, with the same £20 per Krona stake:
Your P&L = (final level of the market - initial level of the market) x stake per Krona
Your P&L = (70.7 SEK - 74.8 SEK) x £20 per Krona stake
Your P&L = -4.1 SEK x £20 per Krona
Your P&L = -£82.00 loss
Spread Betting on the Swedish Shares to Go Down
One major advantage of shares spread betting is that you can go short of the markets.
The initial spread betting price was 74.6 SEK - 74.8 SEK.
If you were to go short of Nordea Bank at 74.6 SEK and the shares went down then the market might be re-priced at 70.9 SEK - 71.1 SEK. Assuming this was the case, you might choose to close your trade for a profit by buying at 71.1 SEK.
Your P&L = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krona
Your P&L = (74.6 SEK - 71.1 SEK) x £20 per Krona stake
Your P&L = 3.5 SEK x £20 per Krona
Your P&L = £70.00 profit
On the other hand, if the market increased to, as an example, 78.3 SEK - 78.5 SEK, you might want to close your trade to limit your losses. In that case, you would buy at 78.5 SEK.
Therefore, with the same £20 per Krona stake:
Your P&L = (initial level of the market - final level of the market) x stake per Krona
Your P&L = (74.6 SEK - 78.5 SEK) x £20 per Krona stake
Your P&L = -3.9 SEK x £20 per Krona
Your P&L = -£78.00 loss
