4) How do you Spread Bet on the Vallourec Market to Go Up?

If you are going to spread bet on French shares such as Vallourec then, looking at a Spread Trading company's website, you may see a spread betting price of €122.89 - €123.31.

That means you could spread trade on Vallourec shares to go higher than €123.31 or to go lower than €122.89.

With spread betting, investors trade on every unit the market goes up or down; specifically, for the Vallourec market a unit is €0.01 of the share's price movement.

As an example, you might choose to bet £1 for every cent that the Vallourec share price rises or falls.

Buying - Spread Betting on the Market to Increase

If you bought Vallourec at €123.31 and the shares went up then the spread might change to €124.73 - €125.15. If that were to happen, you could close your trade at €124.73.

P&L = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per cent

However, if the market were to drop to, as an example, €122.02 - €122.44, you might decide to close your bet to limit your losses. If that happened, you would sell back at €122.02.

Therefore, with the same £1 per cent stake:

P&L = (final level of the market - opening level of the market) x stake per cent
P&L = (€122.02 - €123.31) x £1 per cent stake
P&L = -€1.29 x £1 per cent
P&L = -£129 loss

5) How do you Spread Bet on the Vallourec Market to Go Down?

One of the benefits of placing a spread bet is that investors can short the markets.

The original market was €122.89 - €123.31.

If you were to sell Vallourec at €122.89 and the shares fell then the market might be re-priced at €120.99 - €121.41. In that case, you might decide to close your bet for a profit by buying at €121.41.

P&L = (€122.89 - €124.24) x £1 per cent stake
P&L = -€1.35 x £1 per cent
P&L = -£135 loss
